FAQ

Q: Is Gray Hills a fancy campground?
A: Nope!  We’re a primitive campground—no hookups, no pavement. Just nature, fresh air, and a fire pit waiting for you.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Yes!  We do charge $10/per dog (per stay, not per night) with a 2 dog maximum.  We just ask that they’re well-mannered and won’t disturb the calm for other campers, leashed, and that you clean up after them.  No one likes surprise “trail treasures!”

Q: Is there cell service?
A: Kinda - some carriers have better service than others.  Once you leave the main road, service can get spotty.  Consider it your cue to unplug and enjoy getting back to the basics!

Q: Can I swim in the pond?
A: We’re all for water fun—but no swimming, please.  Bring your kayak (rentals available) or canoe and don’t forget your life jacket!

Q: Is the road to the campsite rough?
A: It’s a dirt road with some natural bumps along the way.

Q: Are campfires allowed?
A: Yes! Every site has its own fire ring. Just be safe, keep it contained, and make sure it's fully out before you call it a night. Bring your own firewood or gather downed wood on-site—just don’t cut live trees, please.

Q: Are there restrooms?
A: Not at this time.  Please bring your own toilet setup.

Q: Can I bring my RV or camper?
A: Gray Hills is best designed for tents and small off-grid setups.  The sites best suited for RVs/campers are sites 3 or 5.  No electric or water hookups here, and the terrain may not suit larger rigs. If you're unsure, just reach out to let us know what your set-up is and we’ll help you decide!

Q: Are the sites shaded or open?
A: We’ve got a mix!  Some sites are tucked in the trees, others catch the breeze up on the hill.  Sites 1-4 have plenty of tree cover, while sites 5-7 are sunnier with minimal or no trees.  Site 8 offers both, and is based on your set-up preference.

Q: Should I expect train noise?
A: There’s a track going through the holler and the train comes through on its own schedule.  Think of it as rustic ambiance!

Q: What's a holler?

A: You’ll know you’re in a holler when the mountains wrap around you in every direction, the narrower road has no center line, and there's a dog or two who think they own it!

Q: Is there wildlife?
A: You bet!  You might see deer, turkeys, turtles, owls, hawks, snakes, or even a curious raccoon. Keep food secured and enjoy the show—from a respectful distance, of course.

Q: What if the address doesn’t show up on my GPS?

A:  Some GPS apps (especially Apple Maps) have trouble pinpointing our spot. Google Maps or Waze usually get it right and will bring you straight to the driveway.  We’ll also send detailed directions 48 hours before your arrival to make sure you find us with ease.
